Our Day on Al Maya Island

Al Maya Island, formerly known as Bahraini Island is beautiful with the white sand and carribean blue waters - it is a perfect getway for both residents and tourists....if you can find it!  To the surprise of most visitors - the outer islands of the UAE are man made and Al Maya is no exception - it was developed in 2005.

How would I describe it - well to quote my friend Stacy "it's MTV on Spring Break."  Located just 9 kilometers or 3.5 nautical miles south west of the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.  It is just a 15 minute boat ride to the island.  The ride itself is worth the trip - the waters are pristine as you approach the unspoiled white sand beaches.

As you leave Abu Dhabi and approach Al Maya
it looks like a paradise....best part, it is!

Nice boat!!

The indoor restaurant, bar and place to cool off.
The pool has a bar with stools in the water and
another cabana for guests to go up and get their own drinks.
The pool with all the umbrellas.  We got there early
enough to get a prime location - pool side and shade.
Service Staff are all over to attend to your every need.
Drinks, food, move the umbrella....it is wonderful!
The huts surrounding the pool....need the shade!

Gayle and Stacy enjoying the pool!

If you take the boat out after 12 Noon, ladies are free
and the guys pay 100 dirhams.  At 3:00 there were
over 1000 people there - half were easily men....
CHA-CHING!!!!!
I mentioned spring break?  Yep, it was a foam party
weekend.....we just people watched.  No foam for us!
In the background is the DJ, stage & foam party.

As the day goes on, more and more people and
the foam crowd grows.
Next to the pool is premium beach front and for
local excursions - an amazing boat!

Three Words:  TIME FOR FUN
