Duane’s Dubai Birthday
2015
For my birthday Gayle treated me to a phenomenal “Get to Know
Dubai” weekend. She planned our weekend
at the 5 star Kempinski Mall of the Emirates hotel with its luxury
accommodations. As the name implies, the
hotel is connected to the Mall of Emirates, where we enjoyed some of our
favorite U.S. restaurants, I-Hop, California Pizza Kitchen and Cheesecake
Factory. Ski Dubai, the first indoor ski
resort and snow park was also featured.
That evening Big Bus Tours provided a panoramic “Night Tour
Dubai” with an open top double decker bus with live English commentary to show
case the brightly lit Dubai skyline and the world’s tallest skyscrapers.
During the tour we stopped at the pyramid shaped Raffle’s
Hotel and the Egyptian themed Wafi Mall to enjoy a magical outdoor sound and
light show. It was truly an impressive
production.
The next day we hopped onboard the Big Bus and a river tour to
enjoy the spectacular sights of the downtown Dubai and its marina. The many sights included the Burj Al Arab, the
Palm Jumeirah Island and the Atlantis Hotel, the Burj Khalifa, Jumeirah Lake
Towers and more.
Upon our return, an evening dinner cruise aboard a “Bateaux
Dubai” glass enclosed boat awaited us.
Fine dining at its best!
The weekend was to be literally “topped off” with a visit to
the top of the Burj Khalifa to view the sunrise. It was an exhilarating feeling seeing the sun
come up over the horizon from the tallest building in the world.
Gayle put forth a lot of effort to make my weekend very
special. She truly succeeded. I am a very lucky guy!
